Over the past years, 24-7 prayer has sought to be a blessing to the church around the world, stirring up a fresh movement of prayer, mission and justice. In the last number of years incredible doors have opened up to us to serve the church and to catalyse prayer and unity, in prominent Cathedrals around Europe such as St Stefan’s Cathedral, Vienna, St Paul’s Cathedral, London and Calvin’s Cathedral in Geneva. It’s been wonderful to witness these Cathedrals packed with people worshipping Jesus in a spirit of unity and intercession, in an atmosphere of expectation for God to do something new in our generation. Building on the obvious sense of the Spirit’s leading on this and due to the strong relationship 24-7 prayer has with the Archbishop of Canterbury, we are partnering with 'Thy Kingdom Come’.
’Thy Kingdom Come' is a global prayer movement which the Archbishop of Canterbury is inviting people around the world to join. He is calling on Christians to pray that people might know Jesus Christ during a focused time between Ascension and Pentecost from 25th May – 4th June 2017, climaxing in lots of ‘beacon events’ around Europe on Pentecost Weekend 2017 (June 2nd-4th). You can read much more about it here.
Here in Ireland, we want to join in! We have had a number of different joint prayer initiatives over recent years and believe something is stirring. We would love to build on this by partnering with this incredible initiative of unified prayer sweeping across Europe. We are encouraging Christians from across all denominations to join with us in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast on Saturday 3rd June or St Catherine's Church, Dublin on Sunday 4th June. We would also love as many churches as possible to host a week of prayer in the build up to Pentecost Sunday. Imagine hundreds of churches and thousands of believers joining in prayer 'agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose’ (Phil 2:2).
So we would love you to;
1. Think about ways your church could join in to pray through the time between Ascension and Pentecost. Register below if you are praying. (You can also download our 'how to set up a prayer room' resource here.)
2. Mark Saturday 3rd June or Sunday 4th June 7:30pm in your diaries to come and join us in St Anne’s Cathedral or St Catherine's Church for a wonderful night of prayer and worship as we intercede for our nation.
